The fundamental purpose of TAF is to engender sustainable and effective professional development of foresters and thereby enhance their contribution to the social and economic development. This purpose shall be achieved through activities such as:
- Representing the views of the forestry profession whenever it is deemed important.
- Actively engaging in forestry to enhance sustainable community development and bringing about natural resources conservation.
- Continuously supporting and reviewing the role of forestry in cultural, social development and in poverty alleviation.
- Publishing journal, newsletter, books, pamphlets, leaflets and any other materials that advance the goals of the Association.
- Holding meetings, seminars, conferences and training to discuss and exchange views and information.
- Organizing work – studies and tours for foresters and stakeholders.
- Advocating for equitable cost and benefit sharing in the management and utilization of forest biodiversity.
- Undertaking such economic ventures and fund-raising activities as the association many deem appropriate.
- Undertaking any other activity which the association may deem useful in achieving the goals of the association.
- Collaborate with national and international organizations in conserving forests, biodiversity, research and information exchange.
- Liaise with relevant institutions such as Gender, HIV/AIDS and workers’ health and safety.
- Conduct research and development projects on forestry related fields of biodiversity and farm forestry (Agro forestry) and crop/forest-wild animal husbandry.
