The Tanzania Association of Foresters (TAF) is a professional organization established in 1976 with the aim of promoting sustainable forest management and fostering the development of the forestry profession in Tanzania. The association brings together forestry professionals, policymakers, environmentalists, researchers, and other stakeholders who are dedicated to the conservation and sustainable use of Tanzania's forest resources. Through its activities, TAF seeks to advance forestry knowledge, influence policy, and create a platform for collaboration within the forestry community.

Vision and Mission

The Vision of the Association shall be “To be the best Civil Society Organization in professional forestry practices and advisory services”.

The Mission of the Association shall be “To provide professional advice and support for sustainable management and use of national forest resources so that they make significant /so as to enhance their contribution to socio economic development and environment conservation”

Objectives of the Association

TAF is an independent entity, a non-political Civil Society Organization established to guide and to enhance the science and practice of forestry and thereby strengthen forestry and the profession of Forestry in Tanzania. Its motto is Forests for Sustainable Development. The objective of the Association shall be:

  1. To foster public interest in forestry and in environment conservation
  2. To form a forum for all engaged in forestry and in environment conservation
  3. To advance and promote the forestry profession
  4. To collect and disseminate information relating to forestry and environment conservation
  5. To advocate equitable cost and benefits sharing accruing from the management and utilization of forest resources amongst all stakeholders.
  6. To undertake economic ventures to ensure financial sustainability of the Association.
  7. To co–operate and liaise with other organizations in and outside Tanzania on matters of mutual interests.
  8. To advocate good governance and gender balance in forestry profession, and
  9. To foster foresters’ and communities’ health on matters pertaining to HIV&AIDS and other deadly diseases.
